Classwork, assignments, projects all classes April 26-30th

7F French Immersion Language Arts- We have completed our project where the students teach the class about a chosen continent. The students enjoyed the experience of being the teachers.
Fitting in with our travel theme for Language Arts, we will begin reading "Tintin au Tibet." We will read this book in class, and work on questions, and French vocabulary. There will be reading to do at home for this novel assignment, and if questions are not completed in class, they will be for homework.

7F French Immersion Social Studies - We will be finishing our final lessons in our unit of study on the Ancient Greeks. As a final project, students will be preparing for a debate, "Where would you prefer to live, Ancient Greece or Ancient Egypt?"

8F French Immersion Social Studies - We have learned in this past week, of the early life of Louis Riel and the origins of the conflict between the government of Canada and the people of Manitoba. We will be learning about the escalation of the conflict in Manitoba, treaties with First Nations and Manitoba joining Confederation.

8F/9F French Immersion Language Arts We will have our podcast completed in full this week. Ask your son or daughter to share it with you at home. We will be entering into a new theme and novel study this week to be decided soon. We are having a dictation on Monday afternoon, lesson no. 11.

9F French Immersion Social Studies- Cultural observation assignment is due on Monday. We have completed chapter 5 and will be reviewing it on Monday. Quiz will be on Tuesday.

9D Social Studies - We have finished chapter 9, Culture and Politics of Atlantic Canada. We will be reviewing the chapter this week and will have a quiz as well. Our mock Parliament project will be modified and completed this week. Students will finish their research on chosen MP on Monday.

Upcoming assignments and projects all classes

7F Social Studies - Assignment working on in class: create a comic-strip to illustrate an aspect of the economy of Ancient Greece, while showing the different social groups which make of Ancient Greece. Assignment is due on Thursday, April 22nd.

7F French Language Arts - We are continuing our "Travel" theme. 3 students pairs are left to present their lessons on their chosen continent. Mid-week, we will begin reading a book together as a class related to the same theme, Tintin au Tibet.

8F Social Studies- We have begun a new chapter, the Advance towards the West. Presently, we are learning about Louis Riel, the Metis and the Red River rebellion. We have completed pages 71 and 73 in their workbooks, and are presently working on another question sheet that matches the textbook.

8F/9F French Language Arts - We are in the editing process of our podcast project. We hope to have this completed this week. We will continue our study on geniuses, reading two articles on Bach and Mozart. We will listen to some of their music this week. Reflections on the Chuck & Albert show are due on Monday, April 19th. I will likely introduce a new dictation/grammar lesson this week as well.

9F French Immersion Social Studies - Students are working on a cultural observation assignment of a television show or a film. It is due on Thursday, April 22nd.

9D Social Studies- In our study of the political culture of Atlantic Canada, we are preparing to participate in a mock Question Period this week. Students will be researching the role of their chosen MP, as well as current issues which are of interest to them. The mock QP should take place Wednesday or Thursday of this week.

Homework/Upcoming assignments for all classes

7F French Immersion Language Arts - Prepare lesson, activity/game on assigned continent to teach to the class. Presentations will be from Tuesday, April 13-April 20th.

8F/9F French Immersion Language Arts
- All groups should record their interview and choose their theme music and sound effects for the podcast by the end of this week. No more class time will be devoted to the recording of interviews.

8F Sciences Humaines - Quiz/Réflections, 6ième période, mardi, le 13 avril, 2010. Matière: chapitre 6, Après la Confédération (John A. MacDonald, pouvoirs provinciales et fédérales, l'Acte Constitutionelle 1982).

9D Social Studies
- All students should have their stations done by Tuesday, April 13 or you will be required to finish them during homework club. Media Watch assignment is also due on Tuesday, April 13th.

All French Immersion students - Chuck & Albert

Reminder that we are going to see Chuck et Albert at Westisle on Monday, April 12th. Bus should leave around 10 am and be returning to Hernewood by noon.
Students need to pass them signed permission slips to me Monday morning.

9D Social Studies

We have completed our "People and Culture of Atlantic Canada" stations in the library. There are a few students that have not completed all of their stations. The due date for all stations in April 13, 2010.
We have begun a study on the political culture of Atlantic Canada. We are examining how government and politics work as well as the media (newspapers, television, radio and internet.)
Due date for Media Watch assignment is this week.

9F Sciences Humaines

We have begun a new chapter on the Culture of Atlantic Canada. Students will be presenting their "portraits culturels" on Monday morning.

8F/9F Français

With the cooperation of Canadian Parents for French, we are participating in a project to publish a Podcast. There are three groups that are in the final stages of recording their interviews. We will add in music and special effects soon. Once our podcast is online, we will post the link and the password.

Once the podcast is complete, we will be returning to our theme, "Qu'est que c'est un génie?"

8F Sciences Humaines

7F Sciences Humaines

We are presently studying the links between our modern society and the society of Ancient Greece. On Thursday, we examined a list of words are discussed their Greek roots. On Tuesday, we will review this lesson again.

Students passed in an assignment on the different social/political groups of Ancient Greece (citoyens, militaires, femmes et enfants, et esclaves) on Thursday. I hope to provide feedback on this assignment soon.

7F Français

The theme that we are working on at present is "les voyages." Students, working in pairs, are presenting lessons in class on Amérique du Nord, Amérique du Sud, l'Europe, le Moyen-Orient, l'Asie, l'Océanie and l'Antarctique this week. Each student pair should be prepared to present information on their chosen area, followed up by an activity to do in class. Students will be evaluated on their preparedness, the quality of their lesson and activities. I am looking forward to seeing the student's lessons.
