The week before Christmas holidays....

9B English Social Studies - We are trying to complete our Global Studies theme before the Christmas break. Currently, the students are working on a slide show presentation in partners. Each slide show presents information on NGO's currently working in Canada or around the world. (Examples: UNICEF, Oxfam, Reporters without Borders, Free the Children, Save the Children, Food Banks, YMCA, the Salvation Army, Katimavik, etc.) I hope that we will have time to present them before the Christmas break, if not we will complete the unit of study the first week of January.
Students also have another short assignment due before the break, a short written assignment 3/4-1 page response/reflection on either: quotations from Bono, Ghandhi, Stephen Lewis, Eleanor Roosevelt, article "Nothing but Nets" Sports Illustrated, or Ms. Dyment's presentation on her year teaching in the North. Corrected assignments and other work will be returned to students upon their return in the New Year.

9F French Immersion Language Arts - We have finally completed the novel, Carmen en fugue mineure, as well as the final project to conclude our theme on the "Voyage Personnel." We have begun a new theme, Mythologies of the World. Currently the students are learning of the differences between gods/goddesses, extraordinary humans, super-heros, and legends. This week we are reading about the legend of Saint Nicolas, and discussing the transformation from Saint to Santa. Grade 9 students also have a dictation exercice for marks, before Christmas Break. I hope to have all Carmen-related assignments back to the students when they return the first week of January.

8F French Immersion Social Studies - We are nearing the conclusion of the unit of study on the Middle Ages. At the moment, students are examining the societies of France and England in comparison to the Muslim territories in the Middles Ages. We have begun a project of creating an artistic interpretation of something that represents the students' daily lives but in the style of art from these societies. This assignment is due before the Christmas holidays. I hope to have many assignments corrected and returned to the students the first week of January 2011.

7F/8F French Immersion Language Arts -
We have finally completed the novel, Carmen en fugue mineure, as well as the final project to conclude our theme on the "Voyage Personnel." We have begun a new theme, Mythologies of the World. Prior to the Christmas break, we will complete a lesson related to the economic activities of Ancient Egypt. This week, the Social Studies consultant from the Department of Education, will be in to observe this class, as we are piloting the implementation of this new program this year. Students have been watching a video (Il etait une fois...l'homme) related to the materials covered so far this year in cartoon form. Students seem to be enjoying this film; I hope it brings further understanding of the development of ancient civilisations in our world. The first week of January, I will return the assignments done since the November report card to the students.

Week of November 29th-December 3rd, 2010

9B English Social Studies - Last Wednesday, two groups composed of 5 students per group, debated the question, "Terrorism is the most pressing international problem today." We will conclude this debate on Tuesday and begin the next one, "We should all focus on local issues and what is important to our local communities than worrying about global issues." Students are evaluated on the preparation of their arguments, the arguments along with examples, their voice, their participation and following the rules of the debate. This debate is the concluding activity of lesson 9 of the Interdependence theme, Citizens of the World.

9F French Immersion Social Studies - Monday, all students will participate in a less formal debate activity, called "the Fishbowl." Students in groups will discuss the following questions, "Terrorism is the most pressing international problem today,"and "We should all focus on local issues and what is important to our local communities than worrying about global issues." Students will be evaluated on the quality of their arguments and examples supporting them, as well as how much they participate. This "fishbowl" activity is the concluding activity of lesson 9 of the Interdependence theme, Citizens of the World.

9F French Immersion Language Arts - Students have only the reading of the epilogue to complete their novel, Carmen en fugue mineure. Last Friday, each student read chapter 10 individually and completed a graphic organizer to demonstrate their comprehension of the chapter. Once the epilogue is complete, we will begin working on some end of novel concluding assignments. Students will be given a choice of assignments, to work on individually or in a group. These assignments are due on December 3rd, 2010.

REMINDER: 9F will be attending a concert, Suroit, at the French school in Summerside on Friday, December 3rd. They will be leaving school after recess around 11 am, and will be returning to school by 3 pm. Students can bring along a packed lunch, or money for lunch, as we'll be stopping at a fast-food franchise before attending the concert. We'll be learning about the musical group, Suroit, from the Magdalen Islands, and listening to their music, before leaving on Friday.

8F French Immersion Social Studies - This week we will be comparing the societies of France and England during the Middle Ages and Canadian contemporary society. In particular, we will be comparing the political sytems of society in the Middle Ages and Canadian society, as well as looking for traces of the Middle Ages in our customs, beliefs, knowledge, technologies.

7F/8F French Immersion Language Arts - Students have only the reading of chapter 10 and the epilogue to complete their novel, Carmen en fugue mineure. Students will be required to complete a graphic organizer to demonstrate their comprehension of chapter 10. Once the epilogue is complete, we will begin working on some end of novel concluding assignments. Students will be given a choice of assignments, to work on individually or in a group. These assignments are due on December 3rd, 2010.


7F French Immersion Social Studies - Students began debating the advantages and the disadvantages of the geography of Ancient Egypt this past week. We will be concluding this debate, and students will receive evaluations based on the preparation of their arguments, the arguments along with examples, the quality of their voice, their participation and following the rules of the debate. We will be moving along to learning about the composition of society in Ancient Egypt and will begin a short research project on the pharaohs of Egypt.

Update on all classes

7F French Immersion Social Studies - We are nearing the end of our study on the geography and physical elements of Ancient Egypt. The students will be participating in a debate regarding the advantages and the disadvantages of Egyptian geography (the desert, the climat, the Mediterranean and Red Seas, the Nile River and the waterfalls on the Nile) on Tuesday.

7F/8F French Immersion Language Arts - We have completed chapter 8 of Carmen en Fugue Mineure, and comprehension questions as well from that chapter. We will be trying to finish reading the novel this coming week. End of novel projects will be introduced at the end of the week or early next week.
Students have completed their 5th Journal entry, and will be assigned another (topic undetermined at this point) for this coming week.

8F French Immersion Social Studies - This past week, we have studied the links between the Franco-Anglo territory and other parts of the world during the Middle Ages. In doing so, we looked at the Vikings invasions, the development of cities during the late Middle Ages (Venise, Bruges, Constantinople, Carcassonne, Hambourg, Baghdad and Tombouctou)and finally the crusades to the Holy Land.
Students will be looking into the political structures during the Middle Ages this coming week.

9F French Immersion Language Arts - We have completed chapter 8 of Carmen en Fugue Mineure, and comprehension questions as well from that chapter. We will be trying to finish reading the novel this coming week. End of novel projects will be introduced at the end of the week or early next week.
Students have completed their 5th Journal entry, and will be assigned another (topic undetermined at this point) for this coming week.

We have been invited to a concert at the French School in Summerside on Friday, December 3rd. Suroit, a musical group from the Magdalen Islands, will be performing. Permission forms will be sent out on Monday, November 29th.

9F French Immersion Social Studies - We have completed a group collage to illustrate what we have learned in examining the book, "If the World were a Village." The collage is now displayed in the hallway outside the classroom.
We have done our initial "Gallery Walk" which is a series of 12 photographs taken in Kenya. Students note their observations and reactions and we share them together is class. To conclude this lesson, we will be discussing our responsabilities as Canadian citizens and a global citizens.

Parent-teacher interview week

9B Social Studies - We have nearly completed lesson 8 in our Interdependence theme in the Global Studies unit on "If the World was a Village." Our concluding activity will be a collage/banner that will be completed by the whole class using "If the World was a Village" theme. Each student will be evaluated on their contributing quote and selected images for this project.

9F French Immersion Social Studies - We have nearly completed lesson 8 in our Interdependence theme in the Global Studies unit on "Si la Terre etait un Village" Our concluding activity will be a collage/banner that will be completed by the whole class using "Si la Terre etait un Village..." theme. Each student will be evaluated on their contributing quote and selected images for this project.

9F French Immersion Language Arts - Due on Monday is the student's fifth Journal entry regarding should they ever have the chance to go for a coffee/catch a hockey game/see a film with a famous person or a friend, where would you go and what would you do? The journal entry matches the events of chapter 6 of our novel of study, Carmen en fugue mineure, where Carmen goes out for coffee with a musician that she admires. We will continue with chapter 7 this week.
Marks for the 4th Journal entry were distributed last Friday.

8F French Immersion Social Studies - We have completed the first part of our study on the Middle Ages. Students have completed their projects on the different social groups of the Middle Ages. We have completed an activity where student pairs described the economic activity linked to the various social groups. Marks for this activity will be distributed tomorrow. We will begin our lesson on the Viking invasions and how they affected the communication between communities during the Middle Ages tomorrow.

7F French Immersion Social Studies - We have begun our study of Ancient Egypt a few weeks ago. I am returning tomorrow several assignments: Map of Ancient Egypt, the natural and constructed elements of Egyptian geography and finally an assignment, interview regarding an event in the past and comparing it with the same event in 2009-2010. Example: comparison of Christmas, Hallowe'en, school etc.
We will continue to examine the geography of Egypt and students will be asked to discern the advantages and the disadvantages of Egypt geography in preserving its civilization.

Leading up to Parent-Teacher interviews

Reminder to students and to parents that Parent-Teacher Interviews will be held at Hernewood on Wednesday, November 10th, from 4-6 pm and then again on the morning of Friday, November 12th, from 9-12. New this year is that report cards are going home on November 25th, after the interviews take place. Hope to see you all there.

7F French Immersion Social Studies - Last Friday, we wrote our first quiz of the school year on the introductory unit to the Ancient Civilizations course. I will return the quizzes on the 25th or the 26th of November. Before we begin our study of Ancient Egypt, the students will be completing their Remembrance Day posters in class this week. The posters are due to the Remembrance Day committee on the 3rd of November.

7F-8F French Immersion Language Arts - We will be starting chapter 5 of our novel, Carmen en Fugue Mineure. We have been completing comprehension questions and/or graphic organizers for the first 4 chapters. Marks for this work is being handed back early this week. We have completed our fourth reflection in our Journal, which will also be returned the end of this week. The focus of our grammar lessons has been on the use of nouns.

8F French Immersion Social Studies - Students are working in pairs on our first research project of the year, the different social groups that existed in England and France in the Middle Ages. This project will be due the first week of November. Students will be completing their Remembrance Day posters in class this week, as well. The posters are due to the Remembrance Day committee on the 3rd of November.

9F French Immersion Social Studies - This past week, we have held two debates in class. Topics of debate were: "Should students be allowed the use of their cell phones, IPODs etc. in school?" and "Should the seal hunt be outlawed in Atlantic Canada?" Both debates were interesting and lively. The winners of each debate will be announced on Monday, and marks assigned to each student. The debates were part of our examinations of current issues following the Global Studies theme.
We will be learning about the consumption of coffee in our world today, and the processes that bring coffee into our North American market. Students will have an opportunity to try a small sample of Fair Trade coffee and a cookie as part of this lesson tomorrow.
Students will be geginning their Remembrance Day posters in class this week. The posters are due to the Remembrance Day committee on the 3rd of November.

9B Social Studies - Students have completed their slide show presentations on various countries around the world and are currently presenting them to the class. Presentations will be complete on Monday. We will then begin looking at the question "Where do our goods and services originate?" in Lesson no. 5 of the Interdependance Unit. Students are asked to bring to school on Monday and Tuesday one to two examples of non-perishable items to be examined at school.

9F FI Social Studies - Students have presented their slide show presentations to the class, they will recieve their mark today for the presentations. Today, we have begun looking at the question "Where do our goods and services originate?" in Lesson no. 5 of the Interdependance Unit. Students are asked to bring to school on Monday and one to two examples of non-perishable items to be examined at school.

9F FI Language Arts - Today we have written our first dictation for marks. The students will have time to complete their Journal assignment regarding their name (why it was chosen, origins of their name, stories and other associations and likes/dislikes of their name.) Assignment due on Monday. We are continuing on with our novel, Carmen en fugue mineur, chapter 2. More comprehension questions are upcoming this week.

8F FI Social Studies - We have completed our maps of the Franco-Anglo territories during the early Middle Ages. We have begun studying the link between the physical features and the human activity at this time.

7F/8F FI Language Arts - Today they are in the computer lab to complete their third journal assignment regarding their name(why it was chosen, origins of their name, stories and other associations and likes/dislikes of their name.) Assignment due on Monday. We are continuing on with our novel, Carmen en fugue mineur, chapter 2. More comprehension questions are upcoming this week.

7F FI Social Studies - Students have learned of the different characteristics that make up societies, both in looking at PEI and Ancient Mesopotamia. This week, we will be learning about the transition of ancient populations from nomadic to sedentary.

Week of September 27-30, 2010

7F Social Studies - The students have completed their interviews comparing aspects of the past and the present using examples such as Christmas traditions, school, and Hallowe'en. We also studied the characteristics which make up the society of PEI. This week we will examine the characteristics of the ancient society of Mesopotamia.

7F/8F Language Arts - On Friday, I introduced our first novel of study that compliments the theme of Le Voyage Personnel, Carmen en fugue mineure. We will be continuing to read this novel together in class and completing comprehension questions. Last week, we completed one grammar lesson and two exercices on the adjective. I will use the exercises as part of their grammar marks for the first semester.

8F Social Studies - We have completed our introduction to our theme of study The Middle Ages. On Friday, we began an in-class assignment on the geography of the Franco-Anglo empires after the fall of Rome. This assignment will be marked out of 32.

9F Language Arts - On Wednesday, I introduced our first novel of study that compliments the theme of Le Voyage Personnel, Carmen en Fugue Mineure. We will be continuing to read this novel together in class and completing comprehension questions. Last week, we completed one grammar lesson and two exercices on the adjective. I will use the exercises as part of their grammar marks for the first semester. I will likely introduce a dictation on Monday, and complete the dictation for marks on Thursday.

9F Social Studies - The students will be presenting their slide show presentations on various different countries that have explored online with a partner. The list of countries include: Ethiopia, India, Hungary, Egypt, Japan, China, Chili, Mexico and Madagascar. The presentations will be marked out of 10.

9B Social Studies - World View assignments were due on Friday. We will begin preparing our slideshow presentations on Monday and Tuesday, and will begin presenting them in class on Wednesday and Thursdays. Students are working with a partner of their choice on this project. It will be marked out of 10.

No school on Friday, October 1st. It is a Professional Development Day for teachers.

Week of September 20-24th, 2010

7F Social Studies - Students have an assignment due today to interview an adult regarding a past event (Christmas, Hallowe'en, school). Students will be comparing the results from their interview, with their experience with the present. This activity is to help students understand that there are things that have occurred in the past that have elements in common with their life at present, with some changes. I will give students some time in the computer lab to type in the results of their interview. Later this week, I will be introducing the concepts of the different caracteristics that define societies, using PEI as an example to compare with the ancient society of Mesopotamia.

7F/8F French Language Arts - The first draft of our second journal reflexion (subject: A description of their bedroom or the bedroom of their dreams, theme of Le Voyage Personnel) was due last Friday. I will introduce two grammar concepts, the use of the present tense, and adjectives. I will expect the students to demonstrate their understanding of these concepts in completing their second and final copy of their Journal reflexion. We will continue to do readings of various texts relating to the chosen theme. I will introduce a novel within the next few weeks.

8F Social Studies - Students have completed a geography assignment, mapping the various kingdoms which existed after the collapse of the Roman Empire. They then compared this map with the present map of Europe, and outlined the countries that developed out of the kingdoms (example: the Francs founded France, the Angles and the Saxons, England, etc.). This week we will answer the question, "Who were the Barbarians?" in examining various sources for a variety of opinions.

9F Social Studies - Last week we discussed the different global perspectives that exist in our world at present, and examined our personal world views. This week, we will examine our preconceptions of other places, and begin a slideshow assignment in pairs on a country of the student's choice.

9B Social Studies
- Monday afternoon, students will present their role plays interpreting the global perspectives of farmers in PEI and Kenya, grade 9 students in PEI and Kenya, international journalists, a person living in poverty in Atlantic Canada, etc. to the class. Those students not wanting to participate in the role play activity were given an alternate assignment to interview another on their global perspective. We will be examining our personal world views, and students will be passing in this as a written assignment for Thursday, September 23rd. We will also examine our preconceptions or other places, and begin a slideshow assignment with a partner on a country of the student's choice.

September 13-17, 2010

Grade 7 FI Social Studies - We have begun our introductory lessons to the study of Ancient Civilisations. This week we are familiarizing ourselves with the work of a historian (the concept of time,the different steps of the historical method, the difference between primary and secondary documents). We will be working on our first assignment of the semester. I will post a description of this assignment later in the week.

Grade 7/8 FI Language Arts - The first theme of the year is "le Voyage Personnel." We will be reading stories about different types of personal voyages. The students have passed in their first written assignment, a description of their interests, tastes, priorities and talents. Feedback on these assignments will be provided this week.

Grade 8 FI Social Studies - We have completed a very quick review of the caracteristics of the society of Ancient Rome, while comparing it with the present-day society of Canada. Our first assignment for the year will be introduced on Monday: choose 5 reasons (from a list of 12 reasons) to explain the decline of the Roman Empire. Students must explain why they think that their 5 reasons are the most likely in their own words.

Grade 9 FI Language Arts - The students have completed their first reflexion on their particular interests, tastes, priorities and talents. They have completed a survey on multiple intelligences to discover which intelligences that describe themselves. We will be discussing non-verbal communication and reading from selected texts.

Grade 9 French Immersion Social Studies & Grade 9 English Social Studies - We have completed the first two lessons in our Global Studies Unit. We will be discussing differences in global perspective. Students will participate in a group role playing activity and then complete a written assignment describing their vision of the world.

Back to School, September 7, 2010

Welcome back students, hello parents. Again this year, I will be teaching Social Studies and Language Arts to grade 7, 8 & 9 French Immersion students at Hernewood. The grade 7 & 8 classes will be combined for Language Arts. I will also be teaching a Grade 9 English Social Studies class, 9B.

Update all classes, May 27th - following week

7F French Immersion Language Arts - Tintin novel assignment due tomorrow, May 28th.

7F French Immersion Social Studies - We have completed our group map assignment and are looking at the economic activities of the Roman Empire. We will soon be examining the social/political of Rome.

8F French Immersion Social Studies - The scenes from Louis Riel's life were presented this past week. We have begun learning centres on life of immigrants to Western Canada that will continue on all next week.

8F/9F French Immersion Language Arts - Grade 8s are reading the novel Toujours Plus Haut; we are on chapter four. Grade 9s are working on an independant novel study.
The last dictation assignment will be completed on Monday, May 31st.

9F French Immersion Social Studies - Individual student presentations of media items will end tomorrow. We will soon begin an assignment on the political parties of Canada, which will continue on into next week.

9D English Social Studies - We have begun looking at changing trends in Canadian society such as family, workplace, social programs, national debt and child poverty. Assignments will be posted next week.

Update all classes May 17-May 21, 2010

9D Social Studies - We have nearly completed chapter 17, Changing Political Relationships as part of the Grade 9 Social Studies program. We have so far studied the empowerment of First Nations, Metis and Inuit as well as Quebec's struggle for empowerment. Currently, we are looking at political and economical issues between Eastern Canada, Central Canada and Western Canada.
Reflection on Quebec' struggle for empowerment is due by the 21st.
9F French Immersion Social Studies - We are about to begin a study of the political culture of Atlantic Canada. We will also be discussing political issues covered in the media. Each student is assigned a different day in which to present an issue to the class and discuss it.
8F-9F French Immersion Language Arts- Each group is currently working on a novel assignment in class. The grade 8s are reading "Toujours Plus Haut" and the grade 9s are reading a novel of their choice. Each student will be responsible for completing an assignment based on their novel by the end of next week. This morning, we completed our second last dictation of the year. I will introduce the last dictation assignment within the next two weeks.
8F French Immersion Social Studies- In the past few weeks, we studied the expansion into Western Canada, learning about the relationship between First Nations and the federal government, the construction of the railroad, the early beginnings of the RCMP and of the Metis and Louis Riel. To gain a better understanding of the life and times of Louis Riel, the students are going to present scenes of his life (early education, leadership of the Metis in Manitoba, rebellion and trial.) The students have also written a reflection, "Louis Riel, hero or traitor?" The scenes will be presented in class on the 20th and the 21st.
7F French Immersion Language Arts - We have nearly completing reading our novel Tintin au Tibet. The students have really enjoyed reading this novel. Once we have completed the reading of Tintin, each student must complete an assignment based on this novel as part of the theme "Les Voyages."
7F French Immersion Language Arts - We have completed our study of Ancient Greece and have begun studying the maps of Ancient Rome. The students were given a different type of map assignment for 4th semester. They were divided up into four groups, each group is responsible for drawing a large-scale map of either the ancient city of Rome, the Roman Empire, the Italian Peninsula and an economic map of the Roman Empire. Each group, upon completion, will present their map to the class. The maps will remain on the walls of the classroom until the end of the year. They will be excellent resources for future lessons on Ancient Rome.

May 4 -May 6 2010 Classwork & Assignments

9D Social Studies - Quiz on Chapter 9 Culture and Politics, Tuesday, May 4th. We have begun studying Changing Political Structures focusing on issues concerning First Nations, Francophones and people from Eastern and Western Canada.

9F Immersion Social Studies - We are studying the musical culture of Atlantic Canada. The students have begun working on individual biographies of Atlantic Canadian artists.

8F-9F French Immersion Language Arts - Last week we watched Amadeus, a movie about the life of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. We will be writing a reflection with guided questions today. We will also be starting a new theme of study for the remainder of the school year. The novel we will be studying the novel, Toujours Plus Haut.

8F Social Studies
- We completed some research on the origins of the RCMP, and are comparing it with the modern RCMP. Our study of the Expansion into Western Canada will continue this week, looking at the completion of the National Railway, and finishing up with the Red River Rebellion.

7F French Immersion Language Arts - We are halfway completed the reading of the novel, Tintin au Tibet. Each day, the students read approximately 5 pages of the novel, answer questions and do vocabulary and expressions from the novel. I am taking in their work and marking it at the end of each week.

7F Social Studies - We have completed a debate on which ancient civilisation would be best to live in, Ancient Greece or Ancient Egypt. We will watch a film about Greece on Wednesday as a wrap-up to that unit of study. On Thursday, we will begin our final unit of study, Ancient Rome.

Classwork, assignments, projects all classes April 26-30th

7F French Immersion Language Arts- We have completed our project where the students teach the class about a chosen continent. The students enjoyed the experience of being the teachers.
Fitting in with our travel theme for Language Arts, we will begin reading "Tintin au Tibet." We will read this book in class, and work on questions, and French vocabulary. There will be reading to do at home for this novel assignment, and if questions are not completed in class, they will be for homework.

7F French Immersion Social Studies - We will be finishing our final lessons in our unit of study on the Ancient Greeks. As a final project, students will be preparing for a debate, "Where would you prefer to live, Ancient Greece or Ancient Egypt?"

8F French Immersion Social Studies - We have learned in this past week, of the early life of Louis Riel and the origins of the conflict between the government of Canada and the people of Manitoba. We will be learning about the escalation of the conflict in Manitoba, treaties with First Nations and Manitoba joining Confederation.

8F/9F French Immersion Language Arts We will have our podcast completed in full this week. Ask your son or daughter to share it with you at home. We will be entering into a new theme and novel study this week to be decided soon. We are having a dictation on Monday afternoon, lesson no. 11.

9F French Immersion Social Studies- Cultural observation assignment is due on Monday. We have completed chapter 5 and will be reviewing it on Monday. Quiz will be on Tuesday.

9D Social Studies - We have finished chapter 9, Culture and Politics of Atlantic Canada. We will be reviewing the chapter this week and will have a quiz as well. Our mock Parliament project will be modified and completed this week. Students will finish their research on chosen MP on Monday.

Upcoming assignments and projects all classes

7F Social Studies - Assignment working on in class: create a comic-strip to illustrate an aspect of the economy of Ancient Greece, while showing the different social groups which make of Ancient Greece. Assignment is due on Thursday, April 22nd.

7F French Language Arts - We are continuing our "Travel" theme. 3 students pairs are left to present their lessons on their chosen continent. Mid-week, we will begin reading a book together as a class related to the same theme, Tintin au Tibet.

8F Social Studies- We have begun a new chapter, the Advance towards the West. Presently, we are learning about Louis Riel, the Metis and the Red River rebellion. We have completed pages 71 and 73 in their workbooks, and are presently working on another question sheet that matches the textbook.

8F/9F French Language Arts - We are in the editing process of our podcast project. We hope to have this completed this week. We will continue our study on geniuses, reading two articles on Bach and Mozart. We will listen to some of their music this week. Reflections on the Chuck & Albert show are due on Monday, April 19th. I will likely introduce a new dictation/grammar lesson this week as well.

9F French Immersion Social Studies - Students are working on a cultural observation assignment of a television show or a film. It is due on Thursday, April 22nd.

9D Social Studies- In our study of the political culture of Atlantic Canada, we are preparing to participate in a mock Question Period this week. Students will be researching the role of their chosen MP, as well as current issues which are of interest to them. The mock QP should take place Wednesday or Thursday of this week.

- All groups should record their interview and choose their theme music and sound effects for the podcast by the end of this week. No more class time will be devoted to the recording of interviews.

Reminder that we are going to see Chuck et Albert at Westisle on Monday, April 12th. Bus should leave around 10 am and be returning to Hernewood by noon.
Students need to pass them signed permission slips to me Monday morning.

9D Social Studies

We have completed our "People and Culture of Atlantic Canada" stations in the library. There are a few students that have not completed all of their stations. The due date for all stations in April 13, 2010.
We have begun a study on the political culture of Atlantic Canada. We are examining how government and politics work as well as the media (newspapers, television, radio and internet.)
Due date for Media Watch assignment is this week.

9F Sciences Humaines

We have begun a new chapter on the Culture of Atlantic Canada. Students will be presenting their "portraits culturels" on Monday morning.

8F/9F Français

With the cooperation of Canadian Parents for French, we are participating in a project to publish a Podcast. There are three groups that are in the final stages of recording their interviews. We will add in music and special effects soon. Once our podcast is online, we will post the link and the password.

Once the podcast is complete, we will be returning to our theme, "Qu'est que c'est un génie?"

7F Sciences Humaines

We are presently studying the links between our modern society and the society of Ancient Greece. On Thursday, we examined a list of words are discussed their Greek roots. On Tuesday, we will review this lesson again.

Students passed in an assignment on the different social/political groups of Ancient Greece (citoyens, militaires, femmes et enfants, et esclaves) on Thursday. I hope to provide feedback on this assignment soon.

7F Français

The theme that we are working on at present is "les voyages." Students, working in pairs, are presenting lessons in class on Amérique du Nord, Amérique du Sud, l'Europe, le Moyen-Orient, l'Asie, l'Océanie and l'Antarctique this week. Each student pair should be prepared to present information on their chosen area, followed up by an activity to do in class. Students will be evaluated on their preparedness, the quality of their lesson and activities. I am looking forward to seeing the student's lessons.
